More than once I’ve been tempted to set up cameras to see what our 2 cats actually do when we leave them alone. Since I work from home, I’m 99% sure that all they do is sleep, but that 1% keeps me guessing sometimes. The Secret Life of Pets comes out on Blu-ray on December 6th and gives you a look inside what really happens once you shut the door… okay, thankfully not, but the movie is HILARIOUS! In fact, it was our favourite family flick of the year (and you know how much I love that little blue, forgetful fish), and we can’t wait to watch it again together as a family.
I was thinking that a weekend viewing party for Chelsea and some of her friends would be perfect – especially with it being December. What parent couldn’t use a couple prime weekend hours child-free to shop, wrap or nap? I’m willing to take one for the team.
If you’ve already seen The Secret Life of Pets, you’ll know why hot dogs are a very fitting food to serve with this film. If you haven’t seen it yet, trust me, you’ll totally understand about 2/3 of the way through. My plan is to watch the movie, then head out to the dining room where the hot dog bar will be set up, and then putting on the Hot Dog Sing-Along from the Blu-ray/DVD Bonus Features while we chow down. Things are going to get silly – big time.
Hot Dog Bar!
Putting on a Hot Dog Bar for your guests is crazy simple. Just think of all the standard hot dog toppings and then go nuts and add a bunch more. Think chili, cheese, bacon, hot peppers, sauerkraut and other veggies. Kids love to be in control of their food and they might even try something they wouldn’t normally eat – BONUS! Hosting a big party? You can easily cook dozens of hotdogs in a slow cooker. Put them in on high right before the movie starts and when it’s over you’ll have more steamy dogs than you can handle.
What about dessert? Cut pretty well anything with one of these dog bone shaped cookie cutters and you’re in business:
During dessert is the perfect time to watch one (or all three) of the additional Mini-Movies included with the Blu-ray and DVD; Norman Television, Weenie and Mower Minions (we saw that one before the movie in the theatre and it gave Chelsea a major case of the giggles).
Is The Secret Life of Pets on your kiddo’s Christmas list? It’s on ours, it even made it into our 5 Great Gifts for Kiddos gift guide. It’s such a fun way to relax for a bit in such a hectic season.
