I’ve been trying to cut back on snacking in our home so that Chels eats better meals and it’s been working like a charm. Our one snacktime exception though is right after school – she’s worked her little butt off for hours, has walked home from school and is going to have a few more hours of playtime ahead of her before dinner.
This year, her after school snack of choice has been granola bars. My choice for her has been apples (we are drowning in Honeycrisps since we went apple picking and they’ve got to get eaten!). Apple nachos are a perfect compromise and it combines things most kids enjoy: Great Value Chocolate Chip Granola Bars, apples, and drizzle.
Now, depending on the day, their (Chels and whichever friend she has over that day… it seems I always have a houseful) apple nachos will be drizzled with almond butter, peanut butter or even caramel if I give into Chelsea’s pleas. Sometimes though, just a little sprinkle of cinnamon is all that is wanted. Other times, it’s all of the above. They certainly look a whole lot more fun this way, no?
Of course, Great Value Chocolate Chip Granola Bars are a yummy snack on their own, and I always have a couple in my purse when we head out on our Sunday Funday adventures… nobody wants a hangry child (or Daddy) on their hands. I’m also a fan of giving them out for Halloween. They are very affordable, peanut free, made in Canada, and can go straight into the kid’s lunchboxes instead of in that bowl of candy above the fridge that may never get eaten – plus, they only cost $1.50 for a box of 8.
What are some ways you can ‘think outside the box’ with your Great Value Chocolate Chip Granola Bars?
