Edit Summer 2017: I’m very sad to say these burgers no longer exist at McDonald’s Canada 🙁
Since starting the LCHF lifestyle, the one complaint I have had is eating out. Home? Pfft, that’s easy… but once I leave my house there are carbs lurking around every corner – lest I eat at Steakhouses every night, and if I did that, I’d lose my OWN house.
McDonald’s to the rescue! Since the spring I had heard about ‘some fancy new burger’ option at some of the restaurants here in Halifax, and that the fries ‘came in little metal baskets’, but I had no idea at just how different their new Create Your Taste line was until trying it tonight.
Create Your Taste lets you build your own burger, which is freshly-prepared in the kitchen with 100% Canadian beef, and a choice of nearly 30 ingredients (including 5 types of cheese, 12 toppings, two buns, a lettuce wrap (YES!) and nine sauces. I’m still pretty strict with ingredients these days, so I skipped the sauces (although ALL I heard from friends and Hubs about the Garlic Aioli and the Sundried Tomato Pesto (listed as a topping), is that they were incredible). Another one of the new toppings though is guacamole, and it’s a good one!
Here’s how I built my perfect LCHF/Keto burger…
2 Angus patties, double bacon, natural cheddar, Monterrey Jack, LETTUCE WRAP, guacamole, carmelized onions, red onions (yeah, I like me some onions), grilled mushrooms, double long-sliced pickle & tomato. Add a bottle of water and I was good to go.
I’m just pretending to share… this burger was ALL MINE and I’m still full!
Hubs went with a slightly more ‘classic’ burger…
Angus patty on the Black & White Sesame Brioche-Style Bun, double bacon (they call it ‘spidering’ but I think it looks more like a turtle LOL), tomato, crispy onions, Monterrey Jack, guacamole, Sriracha sauce, garlic aioli, double long-sliced pickle. He combo’d up his burger with a Coke and fries (which are indeed served in cute little metal baskets). Hubs is the ‘Burger Dude’ of the family, and has visited most of the nicer burger spots in the city… he rated his burger as one of the best he’s had in Halifax – high praise there, Burger Dude.
Not only are the Create Your Taste burgers new, but so is the McCafe Bakery, digital ordering and, get this, table delivery! Guest Experience Leaders are there to help you chose between Self-Order Kiosks or counter service, find seating, and deliver food right to your table.
Locally, these changes are allowing McDonald’s to create up to 330 new jobs in 22 of their Nova Scotia restaurants, which is pretty awesome.
McDonald’s encourages you to share your Create Your Taste creations on social media using the #CreateYourTasteCA hashtag. I asked about any crazy burgers built at the location we visited and was shown a photo of a customer and his 10 PATTY BURGER! He had to share with his friends though 😉
