I can’t believe almost a month has passed since I headed to Moncton to spend a weekend with these beautiful ladies.
The weekend, full of wellness events sponsored by Shoppers Drug Mart, was all about women feeling their best in body, mind, and spirit – and it was a tremendous success.

Funds raised through the Spring Beauty Gala went to Look Good, Feel Better. This program gives makeup and hair alternatives workshops to cancer patients. Morale is a huge part of fighting an illness and by taking care of one’s outwards appearance, women can face cancer feeling supported, confident and optimistic.

Saturday night’s Heart Truth Fashion Show put the spotlight on cardiovascular disease – the single greatest killer of Canadian women. Awareness was raised about the risk factors to prevent heart and stroke as well as celebrate the changes women in New Brunswick are making to lead healthier lives.
Sunday’s Run for Women was all about people coming together to support women’s mental health. Removing the stigma from mental health and get people to share their experience with mental health is key. Running (and walking) also has the power to treat mild depression and the running community is incredibly tight knit and supportive – this was my first experience ever with an organized walk/run and the encouragement we received walking the route was so awesome. Funds raised at the Moncton run went to Beausejour Family Crisis Centre and will help local women get the services they need.
I struggle with Generalized Anxiety Disorder, and have been going through a somewhat challenging period lately. This empowering weekend, along with working with my doctor, have helped me get over a bump and things are looking up. It also explains why I haven’t been blogging as much lately… my focus right now is more on ‘me’.
A friend of mine, Angela, ran the 10k version of the Run for Women, and wrote about it on her new running blog here: https://runnerwaves.wordpress.com/2016/05/02/run-for-women-10k-recap/
