“Just leave your phone at home, you’re on vacation”
That’s just nonsense! Let’s face it, if we did that these days most of us would spend most of our vacation wondering what we were missing out on at home, or dealing with the gazillion ‘what ifs’ that would race through our minds when we should be relaxing and enjoying our well-deserved holiday.
I leave my phone on, and I want to be fully connected, not just dependent on WiFi. Without a bit of pre-planning though, this can be pricy. Like CRAZY PRICY! Years ago I did customer service for an American cellular provider and I’ve heard my share of sad stories of people who arrived back from vacation only to find a (valid) two-thousand dollar phone bill waiting for them upon return… and that was before data plans.
TELUS has always made our travelling worry-free. Their website makes it simple to find out what is required for the locations you are travelling to and what your options are. From the Travel Passes, which give you a specific amount of minutes/texts/data for a 30-day period to the newer US Easy Roam (I LOVE this feature! Make sure you have this on your account if you travel through the US at all… I’ve had one too many Newark delays to not have easy access to my phone).
The best reasons to have full access to your phone while travelling:
Safety – This one is a no-brainer
Less worrying about those left at home
Flight delays/cancellations – Skip the long ticket counter line at a tropical destination when your plane craps out on the runway and you have to be assigned new flights and accommodation – true story.
Maps/GPS – Having GPS during our last trip to Turks and Caicos when we had a car rental was invaluable! We even found a few gorgeous beaches that, trust me, we never would have found otherwise.
Making friends jealous with real-time beach selfies. Hahaha, I kid. But no, really.
Being able to call/text hubs while on a huge resort like Beaches in TCI… awesomesauce. Sometimes I would get delayed (aka, stop for another Pina Colada).
Etc, etc, etc, etc…
Enjoy your vacation, with your phone – just be prepared with a TELUS Travel Pass!
Disclosure: I am an everyday TELUS mobility customer. They did however hook me up with a complimentary Travel Pass on our last holiday because I brag them up so much. Opinions are my own.
