I had glasses for a 6 month period when I was in grade six… mainly because our small town optometrist gave everybody glasses – no joke. Anyway, one day on the way home from a visit to my sister’s in Moncton, we stopped for lunch in Truro and my parents finally submitted to my relentless pestering to eat at Ponderosa. I left my glasses there and even though my mom called them when we got home, they were never found (and I never pestered to go to Ponderosa again, lesson learned).
Fast forward about 27 years and I still really don’t need glasses, but I do have one eye that is slightly weaker than the other, so my current optometrist gave me a prescription, but with the warning that I may find them more of an annoyance than a help, since my eye is pretty used to compensating on it’s own.
Confession time: I really wanted a pair of glasses to make me look ‘bookish’, maybe even ‘hipsterish’ if I was rocking one of my scarves as well.
That said, I still didn’t want to spend much money on something that might not get worn very much. I was able to find this pair online at SelectSpecs.com and I was pretty sure I would look adorable in them, was I right or what?
Ordering online with SelectSpecs was so easy. The site is easily navigated and the glasses are categorized by material, style, brand, and price range. Everything I needed to complete the order was found on my prescription from the optometrist and it even told me what all those numbers meant.
Though SelectSpecs is based out of the UK, it only took about two and a half weeks to receive my glasses and I love them. The fit and prescription are just perfect, although my optometrist was right… my left eye didn’t want any outside help, so I don’t wear them much except for long periods at the computer. That’s okay though, I plan on ordering more with plain glass in both eyes simply to wear as accessories.
Shh! My 20/20 vision is our little secret.
