You know I love my FoodSaver! Ever since I received one to review last year I have been a vacuum sealing machine. Now, the FoodSaver folks have introduced two new varieties of bags and they’ve sent me some to try out…
FoodSaver Liquid Lock Barrier Bags – These are 1 quart bags and what is really cool about them is that they have a liquid blocking strip near the top. To me, it looks a lot like the padding they put in the meat trays at the supermarket. It definitely does the trick as you can see in this video:
These are perfect for sealing moist foods and come in boxes of 12.
FoodSaver Expandable 11″ Roll – This one is also awesome. While I’ve many plans for these bags, I haven’t actually had a chance to try them out yet, but when I place my next meat order, they will become indispensable. The side pleats of this bag expand the width to 14 inches and it can fit up to a 23-pound turkey! Since these are also perfect for sealing casseroles and pies, I think my freezer is going to be very full this winter… yipee! Like most of the FoodSaver bags, these biggies are safe for the microwave, freezer, simmering and refrigerator. This 11″ Expandable Roll is 16ft in length.
Over the past year I have used my FoodSaver religiously. I now buy meat in bulk as I know it’s safe in the freezer, I double up on recipes so I can freeze half, and haven’t had any cheese go ‘skunky’ since. I did have one fail last winter while I was packing for Disney though; I got the bright idea to seal our sunscreens to pack in our luggage. Don’t get me wrong, this was an awesome idea, but don’t use the vacuum! Needless to say that can of spray-on sunscreen did not survive. So far though I’ve only killed a can of sunscreen and a banana bread when I’ve forgotten to ‘seal only’. Not too shabby.
