A few weeks back I had two coupons to use for free boxes of the new Chocolate Cheerios. Loving any freebie I can get my hands on, I rushed out and got them on the day they were redeemable. I’m not a big cereal girl, but Hubby and our little girl are definitely fans. While we do like these dry as a snack, we aren’t enjoying them that much as cereal so I wanted to try to figure out a way to use some of them up. Seeing that I also had the remainder of a bag of HUGE marshmallows that were a total impulse buy sitting up in the cupboard I knew exactly what to try… a Rice Krispie Treat makeover! I made these with added peanut butter and ooey and super gooey, just how we like them! I will now continue to buy these, just to make these squares 🙂
Peanut Butter Chocolate Cheerios Treats
Inspired by Rice Krispie Treats
- 500 g marshmallows
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
- 1/2 cup peanut butter (I use Kraft Unsalted/Unsweetened)
- 1 tsp pure vanilla extract
- 6 cups Chocolate Cheerios
In a large pot, melt butter and peanut butter over medium heat, stirring frequently. Add marshmallows and stir continuously until marshmallows are completely melted and mixture is smooth. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla and cereal to thoroughly combine. Using your hands or a rubber spatula (either buttered or sprayed with non-stick spray, trust me) press firmly into a 9 x 13-inch pan which has been sprayed with non-stick spray. Place in refrigerator to firm up and then cut into squares or desired shapes. If you like your squares less sticky, add a cup or two of extra Cheerios.
Add a glass of milk and release your inner child!
